CGHS Mumbai is an organization dedicated to giving comprehensive quality healthcare to its beneficiaries which include serving employees of Central Government, Pensioners, ex MP’s, ex- governors, MP’s, freedom fighters and their families. It was founded in 1963.
Over time we have expanded from the original 7 wellness centre in Mumbai to the present 28 allopathic Wellness Centres, 2 Polyclinics, 3 Homeopathic Centers and 2 Ayurvedic Centres, we have an allopathic and Ayurvedic centre in Goa as well.
This organization has evolved from being a small set up with minimal infrastructure to a sprawling organization with all WCs with latest technology, fully computerized. Computerization has resulted in more transparency lesser waiting time and has created realistic data regarding numbers, patients profile, drug usage patterns etc. giving us a reliable health database which is the foundation of future health policies and drug formularies.
We have an evolved compassionate team of doctors and staff who are dedicated to providing holistic care to our beneficiaries.
I have a vision to make CGHS Mumbai more patient friendly, reduce unnecessary paperwork (as per rules), make my doctors more empowered and therefore more accountable. I am striving to make CGHS a transparent, efficient, empathetic and smooth running organization.
My career in CGHS Mumbai has spanned 35 years; I joined in 1984 as a Medical Officer, fresh from Lady Hardinge College, New Delhi. Learnt actual OPD work in this organization, learnt communication skills, learnt functional Marathi to understand the local patients. I struggled to find my space in this city (coming from a vastly different culture of Delhi), figuratively and actually also as I had no place to live.
Finally I got the better of this city with unstinted support of family and friends and now this is home. So fellow officers, please don’t get daunted by the challenges this dynamic city presents. If I could do it, so will you.
CGHS is one organization which serves all its beneficiaries during active service and after they retire.
Three cheers for CGHS Mumbai. “Naukri Ke saath bhi, Naukri Ke baad bhi!”
