Condonation of Delay in getting CGHS cards prepared by Pensioners.

The undersigned is directed to refer to this Ministry’s O.N. No. S-12015/2/93-CGHS (P), dated 5/11/1993 on the subject mentioned about wherein a grace period of one month was allowed to the pensioners from the date of their retirement for the purposes of admitting medical claims for reimbursement of medical expenses under CGHS for the treatment taken by them immediately after retirement.

2. The issue has been considered further by this Ministry and keeping in view the difficulties faced by the pensioners after their retirement in securing their remaining benefits from the Government, it has been decided to enhance the grace period from one month to three months from the date of retirement in the case of Government Servants and the date of ceasing to be a Member of the Lok Sabha/Rajya Sabha, in the case of Members of Parliament.

3. This issues with the concurrence of JS(FA) vide Dy. No. 3972/98-JS (FA) dated 1/9/98.

Issue of New CGHS card

  1. CGHS card can be obtained by pensioners from specified offices of the CGHS at each of the places where CGHS dispensaries are functioning. A list of these authorities inter alia indicating full address is given in Annexure II. The pensioners desirous of availing of CGHS facilities may make an application to the concerned authorities in the prescribed proforma given in Annexure III.
  2. A pensioner can get his card renewed for subsequent period of six months or for a period up to four years at a time from the Chief Medical officer in-charge of allotted dispensary on payment of advance contribution.

Facilities available to the pensioners:

  1. Outdoor treatment through dispensaries/polyclinic/hospital, maternity Centre, etc.
  2. Supply of drugs.
  3. Lab. and X- Ray investigations.
  4. Domiciliary visits (provided the pensioner resides within 3 km of the CGHS dispensary).
  5. Specialist consultation in selected centers and Polyclinics / Hospitals, etc
  6. Hospital services at Government Hospitals and selected hospital recognized under CGHS. It includes OPD, hospitalization, specialized investigations and treatment etc.
  7. Specialized treatment in specialized hospital for diseases like Cancer, TB, Polio and Mental diseases.
  8. Super specialty treatment, e.g. Kidney Transplant and Coronary Artery Bye Pass Graft (CABG), etc.
  9. Facilities for Dental treatment are also available.
